Patna: The Bihar government has made a key decision regarding the assignment of promotions and responsibilities for senior positions in the police department. The Department of Personnel (Police Branch) has issued an order assigning 49 police inspectors and officers holding equivalent positions to the temporary administrative charge of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Bihar Police Service. This decision will benefit police officers posted in various districts of the state.
According to the notification issued by the Department of Personnel, this decision was made with administrative considerations in mind. It relied on the rules pertaining to the temporary administrative charge under the General Administration Department’s notification dated 13 October 2023 and the provisions of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued on 11 June 2026. Officers have been entrusted with higher responsibilities at the basic level based on seniority within their cadre.
The order will benefit police officers from districts such as Nalanda, Patna, Bhujpur, Chhapra, Jehanabad, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Vishali, Begusarai, Samastipur, Madhubani, Katihar, Supaul, East Champaran, Rohitash, Kushnagar, Siwan, Saharsa, Araria, Buxar, and Aurangabad, among others.
The current list includes officers such as Arun Kumar, Shaliagram Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Bhavish Kumar Mandal, Jitender Kumar Singh, Vijay Kumar, Santosh Kumar Singh, Vishuranjan Singh, Shashi Bhushan Choudhary, Dhanyanj Kumar, Sangeeta Kashwaha, Seema Kumar, Somi Pria Darshi, Abrar Ahmad Khan, and Kamari Vinda, among others.
The notification clarifies that the current positions of the relevant officers will be held temporarily at the DSP (basic category) level and pay level 9 until the next order. However, this arrangement is temporary and subject to the prescribed rules and conditions. It will not be considered a permanent promotion.
In accordance with the government’s order, the relevant police officers will receive financial benefits from the date they assume the DSP charge. Thus, financial benefit will not accrue merely from the issuance of the notification; it will require the assumption of the higher responsibilities.
The notification, issued under the authority of the Governor of Bihar, bears the signature of Under Secretary Ratanesh Kumar of the Department of Personnel. This decision is regarded as an important step toward distributing responsibilities for senior positions in the police department and meeting administrative needs.
