Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei has warned the United States that any military action against Tehran will carry a heavy price. He said that Iran has not yet utilized all its capabilities and is prepared to intensify its retaliatory strikes if the conflict continues.
According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, Rezaei said on Thursday, "If diplomacy can make this clear, then we prefer diplomacy; but if the war continues, Iran has the necessary resources to continue responding." Rezaei warned that a prolonged conflict could have far-reaching effects on global energy markets, with uncertainty in prices and supply persisting for several years.
He said, "The continuation of the current situation will yield strategic consequences, including the fact that energy markets will not remain calm for the next three years."
His statement comes at a time when tensions have heightened further following a New York Times report. The report stated that the US and Israel have prepared plans to launch renewed attacks on Iran after the US midterm elections.
On the other hand, Tehran has threatened to unveil a weapon it describes as the father of all bombs. This statement has raised fears of the conflict further escalating in Western Asia.
Rezaei claimed that Iran had refrained from using some of its military capabilities in the initial stages of the conflict and could deploy more resources into the field depending on the intensity of the fighting. He said, "We did not use all our capabilities in the previous stages. We brought more capabilities into play in proportion to the intensity of the war, and we are ready for the next stage."
Rezaei further claimed that the conflict is shifting the regional relationship dynamic in Iran's favor. According to him, Gulf countries are reassessing their relations with Iran and are also questioning Washington's ability to protect its military bases in the region.
He said, "With the continuation of this war, the dynamics of relationships have shifted in Iran's favor, as Gulf countries are rapidly defining a new direction in their relations with Iran."
He added that some Gulf countries have begun questioning the efficacy of the security guarantees provided by the US. These countries expected Washington to defend its own military bases as well as their territories.
