Model Law, Job Found: The scheme is playing a crucial role in encouraging sports skills and providing employment in Bihar. Under this scheme, 181 athletes have been appointed to government jobs at various levels in the last two years. This includes 86 women and 95 men, with women comprising nearly half of the total.
The primary objective of the scheme is to provide government job opportunities to athletes who have won medals at the national and international levels, commensurate with their achievements. According to established rules, direct appointments are being made to positions such as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Inspector, Panchayati Raj Officer, and other relevant posts. Through other schemes, athletes receive financial assistance, training, and development opportunities.
Indian cricket team fast bowlers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have also been appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) based on their outstanding performance. This provides athletes with both financial security and social respect.
Rugby player Supna Kumari stated that she faced social opposition and a lack of resources in her early years. Villagers mocked her for wearing a shirt, but her mother always encouraged her. After proving her abilities at the national level, she was awarded a government job in 2022 after winning gold medals in three competitions at the Patliputra Sports Complex. She is currently serving as a Sub-Inspector at the Bihar State Sports Authority. She noted that the attitude of the village and society changed after she got the job, and now people are encouraging their daughters to participate in sports.
Football player Shyamrani, from Atahri village in Mungger district, said that her sports journey began in 2008. Despite social criticism, her family supported her. She has represented the Indian women’s football team and captained Punjab FC in the Indian Women’s League. She is currently working under the sports quota and participates in sports activities at the Bihar State Sports Authority. She stated that government schemes, better training, and sports clubs have increased opportunities for girls to move forward.
Athletics coach Komal Kumari, associated with the Bihar State Sports Authority, stated that the state previously lacked sports infrastructure and government support. Now, with the cooperation of the Sports Department and the Bihar State Sports Authority, athletes and coaches are receiving better facilities. She said that under schemes such as Prerana, Saksham, and Atkarsh, arrangements have been made to provide financial assistance ranging from 300,000 to 20,000,000 rupees to eligible athletes, helping them with training, food, and education.
