Demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, chaos during Lok Bhavan march; several protesters detained
Patna: The All India Students Association (AISA) staged a protest demonstration in Patna on Tuesday against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The organization announced a march to Lok Bhawan, during which a situation of clashes and push-pull arose between the police and the protesters. Students attempted to break the barricades to move forward, after which the police took action to stop them.
According to a report by Live India, AISA workers had gathered at Gate No. 10 of Gandhi Maidan to launch the march at approximately 11:00 AM. However, the police had deployed a large number of personnel to prevent the protesters from advancing. The road from Ram Gram Chowk to JP Gomber was closed in anticipation of the march, and barricades were set up at JP Gomber to stop the students.
Despite police obstacles, the protesters broke the barricades at JP Gomber and began moving towards the Dak Bhawan. During this, students raised slogans and a push-pull situation occurred with the police. To bring the situation under control, the police pushed the protesters back and attempted to disperse them. SDM Kritika Mishra, the Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order), and other officers were present at the scene. The report stated that some students were detained during the protest. Another incident also emerged when it was reported that some students participating in the march had taken the keys of a Vega vehicle. The police had made strict security arrangements to stop the march towards Lok Bhawan and to maintain control of the situation on the roads.
AISA, while protesting against the SIR, demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This protest by the organization came against the backdrop of objections regarding the revision of the voter list and the electoral process. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands and attempted to march to Lok Bhawan. After the police blocked their path, the protest intensified, creating a tense situation on the streets of Patna for a short while.
