China demands Israel halt illegal Jewish settlements

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi demanded during his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog that Israel cease the forced establishment of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and reverse the measures taken in this regard. According to a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, Wang Yi reiterated Beijing's position that the Palestinian issue is the greatest historical injustice of this century. Wang Yi stated that promoting peace and reconciliation in the region is a fundamental pillar of China's Middle East policy, and that a two-state solution is the most appropriate path to resolving the issue.

Wang Yi also emphasized that the immediate priority is to fully open all routes for entry into besieged Gaza to prevent the spread of a humanitarian catastrophe. He stated that Israel must end its policy of forcibly establishing illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank. China is ready to work with the international community to achieve a political solution to the crisis and to bring the parties back to the table of negotiations and consultations as soon as possible.

It is noteworthy that despite being deemed illegal under international law, more than 500,000 illegal Jewish settlers have been settled in the West Bank since the Israeli occupation began in 1967. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who leads the ruling far-right coalition in Israel, had accelerated the process of approving illegal settlements.

According to United Nations statistics, settler attacks against Palestinians, including incidents of beatings, vandalism, and arson, occurred an average of six times daily during the first half of the year. Last week, settlers attacked an AFP news agency photojournalist who was photographing the olive harvest. The journalist's ribs were broken in the attack, and his camera was snatched away.

On the other hand, Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement reached to stop the genocide in Gaza. According to statistics as of Thursday, 1,505 Palestinians have been killed and 5,332 injured in the attacks. According to ministry statistics, Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and injured over 175,000 in the genocide imposed on Gaza since October 2023. As a result of this brutal aggression, 90 percent of Gaza's infrastructure has also been destroyed. Experts state that the released figures are far lower than the actual number of deaths, and the real toll could be approximately 200,000.
