Bihar is the sacred land of knowledge and democratic traditions: Karan Rijiju

Awaz E Bihar•7 February 2026 at 03:56 pm•1 views•3 min read

Patna, 7 February (ABN). Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, highlighted Bihar's historical, spiritual, and democratic heritage during the foundation day celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. Other speakers at the event emphasized Bihar's democratic traditions, technological advancements, and empowerment of legislation.

Addressing the gathering, Kiren Rijiju stated that Bihar is a sacred land of knowledge, thought, and democratic awareness. Lord Buddha conveyed a message of peace and compassion to the world from this land, further enhancing Bihar's global significance.

Rijiju expressed his deep connection to Bihar's sacred land, from where the message of Buddhism spread across the world. He said that when he travels abroad with relics of Lord Buddha, people's attitude towards him is filled with respect and reverence.

Referring to the Prime Minister's "One Nation, One Application" initiative, he said that in the digital era, both governance and democracy are rapidly changing. In a vast country like India, the responsibilities of public representatives are immense. He compared the average population of an Indian Lok Sabha constituency to that of a British constituency, which is approximately 90,000, whereas in India it is around 25 lakh people. Consequently, the challenges faced by Indian representatives are much greater.

Kiren Rijiju said that the primary responsibility of public representatives is to serve the people of their constituency. With the changing times, the importance of technology has increased. He stated, "Today, if you need to speak or deliver a speech on a topic, you can obtain information in seconds through AI. The more you use it, the more you will benefit." He identified hard work, dedication, and a continuous learning attitude as the hallmark of a successful MP or MLA.

The Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs praised the proceedings of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, saying that the discussions there are of high quality. He also said that the live broadcast of the assembly proceedings is effective and the way of working here is meaningful and impactful.

On the occasion, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, praised the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying that under his leadership, Bihar is writing a new chapter of development. He pointed out that the state's budget, which was Rs 29,000 crore in 2005, has now increased to approximately Rs 3.47 lakh crore. He also said that both the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly have been digitized, and the foundation stone of a digital library has been laid in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, which will provide access to knowledge resources.

Assembly Speaker, Dr. Prem Kumar, said on the occasion that the Legislative Assembly is not just a building, but a symbol of Bihar's democratic awareness. It has a unique identity, and there is a need to strengthen democracy further in the face of current challenges.

Vijay Choudhary informed that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was supposed to attend the event but could not due to prior commitments. He thanked the Chief Minister on behalf of all the guests and participants.

The event was attended by a large number of public representatives, officials, and dignitaries. During the program, special emphasis was laid on Bihar's democratic traditions, technological advancements, and empowerment of legislation.
