Patna: (ABN) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inspected the engineering college and the Road Transport and Highway (ROB) being constructed in Bakhtiyarpur. He rebuked officials in Bakhtiyarpur, emphasizing that they must complete the unfinished work on the ROB promptly. The officials, with folded hands, assured him that the work would be completed within a month. While inspecting the Kajra-Tajpur four-lane, he gave necessary instructions to the officials.
Security authorities were caught off guard when the Chief Minister suddenly appeared among the public to meet them. In Athmal Gola, the Chief Minister told the public that after the construction of the bridge, people would have every kind of facility to come and go. He said that this work has been going on for a long time, and he has inspected it several times and has come to see it again today. The Kajra-Tajpur project has been the Chief Minister's dream project. Here, he was also seen directing other officials to complete the construction work soon.
In fact, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's dream project, the Tajpur-Kajra road, has missed several deadlines. A new deadline has been set for 2027. The authorities claim that 62 percent of the work has been completed, but the ground reality is different. The Road Construction Department has also directed the construction company several times to complete the project on time.
The Navayuga Construction Company started the Kajra-Tajpur project in 2011. The company had set a deadline to complete the project by 2016. Meanwhile, the last date for the completion of the bridge has been extended four times: first to May 2016, then 2018, March 2020, and now the project is being restarted, which will be completed by May 2026.
The Chief Minister has inspected this dream project several times and directed officials to complete the work on time, but there is still a lack of expected progress in the construction. The bridge was to be built on the Ganges River, covering an area of about five and a half kilometers, but even after several years, the slab has not been laid on the pillars.
The cost of the project has increased from ₹1,604 crore to over ₹3,923 crore, but due to the slow pace of the project, it seems that it will not be completed by 2027. The total length of this route is 51.26 kilometers. A 5.51 km bridge over the Ganges River and a 45.75 km highway are also being constructed. This project will reduce traffic congestion on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu and will significantly facilitate travel between North Bihar and South Bihar.
