The government is fully committed to empowering women socially, economically and educationally: Speaker

Awaz E Bihar•28 February 2026 at 07:32 pm•0 views•3 min read

Patna, 28 February (ABN) The Department of Social Welfare, Bihar, today organized a discussion and orientation training program on various schemes for women empowerment with the honorable women members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly at the auditorium of the extended building of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The program began with the lighting of the lamp for the reception of the esteemed guest, Mr. Uday Narayan Singh, and other dignitaries. The concept of this program was conceived during a meeting with the Committee on Women and Child Development. It was felt that the honorable women members are extremely active and committed in their respective fields, but updated and comprehensive information about the schemes run by the Department of Social Welfare is not fully available to all. Based on the committee's suggestion, it was decided to hold a special orientation and training session for all women members so that they can provide accurate and comprehensive information about the schemes to women, children, and backward groups in their respective constituencies. This event, held on the occasion of International Women's Day, becomes even more meaningful. It is not just a training session, but a concrete step towards empowering women representatives.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Vandana Preyasi, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Bihar, said, "The state government is fully committed to the social, economic, and educational empowerment of women. The active participation of public representatives is essential for the effective monitoring and strong enforcement of the department's schemes at the grassroots level. This session may be time-bound, but I am confident that it will be informative and useful. In the future, if there is a need for detailed training or discussion on a specific topic, the Department of Social Welfare will organize such programs."

Mrs. Ashwamedh Devi, Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Child Development, Bihar Legislative Assembly, said, "The role of women representatives is crucial not only in policymaking but also in spreading awareness in society. This discussion program will further strengthen the understanding and impact of the schemes."

Mr. Uday Narayan Singh, Hon'ble Chairman, Bihar Legislative Council, expressed his thoughts, saying, "Bihar has always been a land of talent. Its daughters are making their mark in every field, including art, education, politics, and administration. The participation of women in the legislature is also increasing continuously. Reservation in Panchayats has brought a historic change in this direction. Women are not just representatives but also capable leaders. Their active participation in democracy is a symbol of positive change in society. The government is implementing special schemes for education, health, and disabled children. We must work together to eradicate social evils, ensure the protection of daughters, and provide them with education and opportunities. Women are not weak; we should work to empower them further."

Dr. Prem Kumar, Hon'ble Speaker, Bihar Legislative Assembly, said, "The effective implementation of schemes is possible only through coordination between the legislature and the executive. Empowering women is the foundation of overall development."

Madan Sahni, Minister, Department of Social Welfare, Bihar, said in his keynote address, "The Bihar government is working to make women's empowerment the foundation of development. Our priority is to ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach every woman at the bottom of the pyramid. For this, the cooperation of public representatives is essential."
