Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of hiding information about clashes between Indian soldiers and the Chinese army in Arunachal Pradesh, said that instead of misleading the nation, he should tell the complete truth to Parliament and the public. In a statement issued here on Friday, Mr. Kharge said that the Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has confirmed ongoing clashes with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Arunachal Pradesh. He questioned whether this is another serious clash after Doklam and Galwan? He also stated that reports of Chinese incursions near Taksing emerged in August, and clashes are reported to be continuing even 47 days after the Corps Commander-level talks in Vacha-Damai. He said that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, and the country should not be kept in the dark in this matter. The government must state whether India's patrolling access in the region has been affected.
Appealing to the Prime Minister to stop giving repeated clean chits to China and to clarify the situation before the country, Mr. Kharge said that accountability is essential in matters of national security, not diplomatic meetings and hugs. Regarding economic dependence on China, he said that following the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers in Galwan, imports from China have increased by 102 percent since FY 2020-21, and India's trade deficit with China has risen to 112.16 billion dollars. Mentioning that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has admitted that China creates hurdles for Indian exports, and pointing out that relaxations in restrictions on China-linked investments and granting Production-Linked Incentives (PLI) to eligible Chinese companies are being considered, he asked whether 'Make in India' has now become 'Import from China'?
Mr. Kharge said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have had at least 23 meetings and discussions. There have been 25 rounds of Special Representative-level talks with the participation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and 36 meetings of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs have taken place. Contact between both sides has also occurred at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS summits. What tangible results came out of these meetings, and has patrolling access prior to May 2020 been fully restored? We have complete faith in the armed forces, but accountability is also necessary in matters of national security. Instead of attacking the opposition, the Prime Minister should inform Parliament and the people of the country about the complete situation.
