The movement will continue until the Constitution is protected, the Chief Election Commissioner resigns, electoral reforms are implemented, and the people of the country receive justice.
Former Congress President and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi announced that the public movement against vote rigging and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will continue until the CEC resigns and electoral reforms are implemented, stating that the youth will not back down. Speaking at a special press conference on Tuesday, Mr. Gandhi claimed that Delhi has been turned into a cantonment, with people being prevented from reaching the capital and protesters being beaten, indicating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government are protecting Gyanesh Kumar. He alleged that police officers are also disturbed by the current situation, with many believing the opposition's movement is justified, asserting that the truth is on their side and they will not tire, stop, or cease fighting.
He stated that the police, ITBP, CRPF, the public, and opposition parties are on one side, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Gyanesh Kumar are on the other. He accused individuals associated with the RSS and BJP of targeting protesters by committing violence against women and youth. Mr. Gandhi claimed that nearly 200 officers of the Modi government are in contact with them, providing continuous information from within the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Ministry of External Affairs. He noted that people are questioning the deprivation of voters' rights.
Mr. Gandhi revealed that he and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written to the Chief Justice of India, expressing grave concern over the transparency of democracy and elections. The Chief Justice responded by advising them to file a petition, and the leaders of the India Alliance will now jointly approach the Supreme Court to file it. Appealing to the public to join the movement, he stated that people from all parties who believe in the protection of the Constitution will participate in this struggle.
The movement will continue until the Constitution is protected, the Chief Election Commissioner resigns, electoral reforms are enacted, and the people of the country receive justice.
The Congress leader stated that on the first day, opposition leaders were stopped from going to the Election Commission and were forced to sit in a bus; on the second day, they were stopped and pushed while heading to Jantar Mantar; and on the third day, opposition leaders protested at Raj Ghat. He said that the opposition is now heading to the Supreme Court.
He appealed to the youth to continue the fight for the protection of democracy and the Constitution every day, not to back down from the movement out of fear, and stated that this movement is for public welfare, akin to the Tandav of Lord Shiva and Shiva's procession, where nothing is pre-determined and anyone can participate.
