Hijab controversy: Dr. Nusrat has not yet joined work, Nitish government gives third chance

Awaz E Bihar•3 January 2026 at 07:16 pm•1 views•2 min read

Patna: (ABN) Dr. Nusrat Parveen, who came into the limelight due to the hijab controversy, has been given another opportunity by the Nitish government to join her job. Nusrat had not joined her duty till the last date of December 31. On Friday (January 2), the Health Department again extended the joining period.
Now, Ayush doctor Nusrat can join her job till January 7. It is worth mentioning that on December 15, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had distributed appointment letters among the selected doctors. A video of the ceremony went viral on social media in which Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen removing Dr. Nusrat's hijab. After this, the matter became a topic of discussion across India.
Dr. Nusrat was supposed to join her duty by December 20, 2025, but after the hijab controversy, she did not join her duty. After this, the Bihar government gave her an extension till December 31 to join her duty, but Dr. Nusrat did not join her duty even on this date. After this, the Nitish government has again extended the joining date to January 7. Now it remains to be seen whether Dr. Nusrat will join her duty on January 7 or not?
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Principal of Patna's Government Medical College and Hospital, claimed on Friday that the family of Ayush doctor Nusrat Parveen had confirmed that she would join her duty soon. Dr. Nusrat is a post-graduate student of the first year in the same college. Dr. Rahman also told the media that Nusrat's family had confirmed that she would join her duty on Saturday (January 3), but there is no news of her joining yet.
It is notable that Dr. Nusrat's job has become more of a political issue than a health department matter. Amidst the political war and allegations, Nusrat and her entire family are silent. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has also advised her to join her job. On the other hand, Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has offered her a job with a monthly salary of Rs 3 lakh.
