Patna: Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi has strongly criticized the state's double-engine government over the law and order situation. She alleged that during the current government's tenure, criminal elements are openly committing crimes and the administration is failing to control them. It is worth noting that the RJD and other opposition parties have been constantly cornering the government over the law and order situation in Bihar. On Monday, opposition members also staged a protest in the assembly premises over the issue of rising crimes against women, raising tough questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Speaking to the media in Patna, Rabri Devi said that murder cases are becoming commonplace in Bihar. According to her, reports of killings are emerging daily from different parts of the state, while cases of rape and looting are also on the rise. She said that in such circumstances, ordinary citizens feel insecure. Criticizing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rabri Devi said that the current law and order situation is alarming. She said that as the opposition, they have been constantly raising questions, but are not getting satisfactory answers from the government. She said that the ruling party itself should explain why law and order is being affected in the state.
Rabri Devi also said that the government does not seem to have an effective strategy to control crime. She sarcastically remarked that the situation is worse than what was termed as "jungle raj" in the past. The former chief minister also questioned the state government's financial policies. She said that if the government deposits Rs 10,000 each into the bank accounts of women for free, it could affect the salaries of other government employees. According to her, the government already faces a shortage of financial resources and there is a risk of a crisis in paying salaries.
RJD MLA Bhai Virendra also expressed concern over the law and order situation, saying that people in the state feel insecure. He claimed that people are forced to live in the shadow of fear and there is a risk of accidents happening anywhere.
