Allama Kashmiri's educational philosophy is a guiding light for all: Maulana Anisur Rehman Qasmi

Awaz E Bihar•14 December 2025 at 12:57 pm•0 views•3 min read

Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri seminar participation of Hazrat Amir Shariat and presentation of the article:

A two-day detailed seminar was held at Darul Uloom Deoband Waqf on Imam Al-Asr Hazrat Allama Muhammad Anwar Shah Kashmiri, in which writers from home and abroad presented papers based on Allama Kashmiri's academic breadth, intellectual insight, and educational services. In the second session of the seminar, prominent scholar and compiler of Fatawa Alamgiri, Amir-e-Shariat Hazrat Maulana Anisur Rehman Qasmi, General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, presented a valuable paper on Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri's educational theory.

Maulana Qasmi, in his paper, explained the features of Anwar Shah Kashmiri's educational theory, saying that Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri's educational theory was derived from the basic "Iqra" of Islamic education, in which no narrow circle of knowledge is found. According to him, the Quran and Hadith, Fiqh and Kalam, as well as medicine, philosophy, logic, mathematics, astronomy, history, geography, and modern scientific sciences, are all blessings of Allah, provided that humans reach God's recognition through self-recognition.

The paper emphasized that Allama Kashmiri represented the educational system of Darul Uloom Deoband, which is a beautiful blend of moderation, comprehensiveness, and breadth of thought. Presenting the paper, it was said that Allama Kashmiri was not only unparalleled in the sciences of the Quran and Hadith, but he also had a deep understanding of contemporary sciences, ancient philosophy, modern science, and multiple languages. He was familiar with Urdu, Persian, Arabic, English, and Hebrew languages and considered languages to be an effective means of serving the religion.

The paper quoted his statement that it is necessary to write and speak in Urdu and other local languages for the service of Islam in India. Maulana Anisur Rehman Qasmi, presenting the paper, said that Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri had made a strong academic and intellectual response to Macaulay's Western and religion-hating education system in the intellectual landscape of the subcontinent. He said that if Darul Uloom Deoband and personalities like Allama Kashmiri had not been there, the religious identity and Islamic thought in the subcontinent could have been in severe danger.

Maulana Qasmi emphasized that Allama Kashmiri's educational theory is not limited to madrasas, but it is also a guiding principle for modern educational institutions. In his paper, Maulana Qasmi also clarified that Allama Kashmiri was deeply interested in medical sciences and scientific research and believed that expertise in medical science is necessary to understand the prophetic medicine correctly. Similarly, he considered modern scientific discoveries to be a means of confirming and explaining Islamic beliefs, not a threat.

In summary, Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri's educational theory was based on four foundations: (1) He was in favor of all kinds of beneficial knowledge, religious and worldly. (2) In the field of knowledge, he was in favor of taking and giving education from every expert, regardless of their religion. (3) He was in favor of providing free education, especially religious sciences. (4) He was in favor of financial support for poor and needy students, and this is the Islamic theory of education, which Muslims have been following for over fourteen hundred years, and its effects are visible in the educational systems of the whole world, and the world is not only realizing its usefulness but also adopting it.

Finally, Maulana Qasmi, considering this grand academic seminar as a tribute to Allama Kashmiri, congratulated the organizers, including the Mohtamim of Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband, Hazrat Maulana Sufyan Qasmi, Vice Mohtamim Maulana Dr. Shakib Qasmi, and the teachers and staff of Waqf Darul Uloom Deoband, and hoped that the seminar would achieve its purpose and the educational movement initiated by Allama Kashmiri would reach every household.
