Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh expressed concern on Wednesday over the language used in newspapers to report on the proceedings of the House. As soon as the pre-lunch session of the Council began, senior RJD member Abdul Bari Siddiqui said that the correct message of the House proceedings is not reaching the public. In response, Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh also expressed dissatisfaction with the language used in newspaper reports, saying it is not appropriate to present the proceedings of the House in a language like that of the streets. He said he would discuss the matter with senior members in his chamber.
After that, the question-and-answer session proceeded as usual, which also saw a heated debate over the approval of duplicate projects under the Chief Minister's Universal Civic Development Scheme. RJD's Abdul Bari Siddiqui alleged that out of 4,787 projects, 105 schemes that had already been completed were approved. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that 3,259 projects were approved, out of which 101 fake projects were identified and canceled, and action would be taken against the concerned officials.
During the question hour in the House, the government acknowledged that the number of liquor addicts has increased in Bihar. In-charge Minister Ashok Choudhary accepted this in response to a question by JDU's Ravindra Singh. JDU's Veerendra Narayan Yadav expressed concern over the increasing number of liquor shops in bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh and demanded that the government coordinate with neighboring states. Minister Choudhary said that an awareness campaign and raids would be intensified to curb liquor addiction. He informed that over 15,000 kilograms of ganja, 240 kilograms of opium, and 40,000 liters of kaff syrup have been seized in the state, and more than 16 lakh arrests have been made.
The issue of employment of candidates associated with Belta was also raised in the House. Council member Ashok Kumar said that out of 10,000 candidates who passed the Hindi typing exam, only 5,000 got appointments. In-charge Minister Shreyasi Singh clarified that appointments were made on the basis of merit, and there is no plan for the remaining candidates at present.
The situation regarding the settlement of land disputes through the Land Reforms and Public Grievance Department was also discussed. Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that about 40 lakh land records have been found to be defective, out of which six lakh cases have been rectified. Under the Public Grievance Department, 8,363 applications have been received, on which action is being taken. Meanwhile, RJD's Sunil Kumar Singh alleged that in many blocks, land-related work is not done without bribery. The minister assured of an investigation and action.
