Patna. Health Minister Mr. Mangal Pandey said that ensuring better health for every mother and child in the state is our commitment. Continuous efforts are being made to provide standard pre-natal services to every pregnant woman. For this purpose, special emphasis is being laid on the effective implementation of PMSMA (Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign). Under PMSMA, pregnant women undergo complete and standard pre-natal check-ups on three specific days of the month (9th, 15th, and 21st of every month). So far, the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign was being run in a total of 702 health institutions in the state. Now, while expanding these standard services across the state, the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign has been launched in 568 new health centers (564 additional primary health centers and 4 urban primary health centers). Thus, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is now being implemented in a total of 1,270 health institutions in the state. The expansion of this campaign will ensure the identification of high-risk pregnancies and their timely treatment. This step will be helpful and effective in reducing the maternal mortality rate. Mr. Pandey informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, special screening camps were successfully organized across the state on December 9. Further campaigns are scheduled for December 15 and 21. A large number of pregnant women, from districts to sub-health centers and urban primary health centers, participated in the campaign and are benefiting from free screening and treatment. Under PMSMA, pregnant women are receiving pre-natal check-ups, including hemoglobin, HIV, sexually transmitted infections, high blood pressure, and urine tests. Emphasis is also being laid on providing timely treatment through regular follow-up by ASHA workers in the presence of expert doctors to identify high-risk pregnancies. Mr. Pandey said that the expansion of the Prime Minister's Safe Motherhood Campaign in the state is having a positive impact, reflected in the improvement in maternal health. To ensure the success of the campaign, capacity building has been done at the district level through the training of health workers so that they can provide services more effectively. All pregnant women are requested to visit their nearest health center on December 15 and 21 to avail themselves of free check-ups. Safe motherhood is the foundation of a healthy society.
