Crimes committed under government patronage and sponsorship have worsened the law and order situation in the state: Tejashwi

Awaz E Bihar•18 January 2026 at 06:23 pm•0 views•3 min read

Bihar Assembly Opposition Leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Sunday accused the Nitish government of being insensitive, stating that the law and order situation in the state has been completely ruined due to crimes being committed under the government's patronage and protection.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Mr. Yadav said that the government, which was formed by buying votes, is turning a blind eye to the atrocities being committed against minor girls, students, daughters, and women across Bihar. Despite the heinous crimes being committed under the government's patronage, the government is maintaining silence on the issues that send shivers down the spine and is instead pretending to be moral.

Citing incidents in Madhepura, Khagaria, and Patna, Mr. Yadav put the government in the dock on behalf of his party. He referred to the gang-rape and murder of a widow in Madhepura, the brutal gang-rape and murder of a four-year-old minor girl in Khagaria, and the rape and brutal murder of a female student in Jahanabad, Patna, as examples of the poor law and order situation in Bihar.

The Opposition Leader alleged that after these incidents, attempts are being made to cover up the crimes under the government's patronage. RJD leader Mr. Yadav also said that when people took to the streets in Patna and Khagaria to protest against these incidents, the police lathi-charged the demonstrators demanding justice for the victims and sent them to jail, while on the other hand, the culprits and rape accused are being treated like "guests" and given protection and respect.

He questioned whether demanding the arrest of the accused in the rape and murder of a four-year-old girl is a crime? Is it a sin to share the pain and suffering of the victims and raise their voice for their rights?

Terming the law and order situation in Bihar as completely poor, Mr. Yadav said that the Chief Minister's silence has now become criminal. Opposition Leader Mr. Yadav sarcastically said that perhaps no journalist remembers when the Chief Minister last spoke to the media. In this government, which runs on machinery, oppression and exploitation are increasing day by day.

RJD leader Mr. Yadav warned that if the crimes being committed under the government's patronage and protection are not curbed, the public will take to the streets to fight for their rights and will show the government how a public movement is run.
