A crucial meeting of the College Development Council was held at Patna Training College, Patna University, Patna. The meeting was presided over by the Principal of the college, Dr. Muhammad Waseem Zafar. In the meeting, a resolution was unanimously passed that Patna Training College, Patna, be developed as a multi-disciplinary higher education institution by the year 2030, in accordance with the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020. The meeting decided that the transformation of the college into a multi-disciplinary higher education institution is necessary to compulsorily start programs such as 4-year integrated teacher education program like B.Sc. B.Ed., B.A. B.Ed., B.Com. B.Ed. These changes will be made in accordance with Section 4.15 and 5.15 of the National Education Policy 2020 and Clause 5.1 of the amended regulations 2021 of the NCTE, New Delhi.
The College Development Council, after detailed deliberation on the three options proposed by the NCTE, New Delhi, and the UGC, decided that Patna Training College, Patna, will be converted into a multi-disciplinary higher education institution independently, not through merger or affiliation with any other institution. The Council considered this alternative as better, taking into account the college's historical identity, educational heritage, and adequate availability of land. The meeting also mentioned that Patna Training College was established in 1908 and is one of the four oldest teacher training institutions in India. It is the first affiliated college in the state university system of Bihar and Jharkhand for teacher education and has been one of the pioneering institutions in the country to start postgraduate courses in the field of teacher education.
The College Development Council unanimously authorized the President to prepare a detailed proposal for the conversion of the college into a multi-disciplinary higher education institution, which can be sent to the Patna University administration. It was also decided to hire the services of a professional agency to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the development of infrastructure, the expenses of which will be borne by the college's internal resources. The members present in the meeting termed this decision as a historic step in the field of teacher education, saying that it will not only expand the educational capacity of Patna Training College but also give a new direction to comprehensive, flexible, and high-quality education in Bihar. All the teachers of the college were present on the occasion. The Principal of the college, Dr. Muhammad Waseem Zafar, thanked all the participants for their participation. The proposals adopted in the meeting will be sent to the state government through the university soon for implementation.
