Golden opportunity for promotion of regional language in national education policy: Professor Mushtaq Ahmed
Darbhanga, December 23: To enrich any language, it is essential to translate regional languages, as regional languages are not just languages but also reflect the culture and civilization of a particular region. Therefore, when we come across translations of regional languages, we become aware of various cultures and civilizations. These views were expressed by Professor Abu Bakr Abbad, a renowned critic and researcher of Urdu, and Head of the Urdu Department, University of Delhi, Delhi. Professor Abbad was expressing his views as a special guest at a seminar organized by the Urdu Department of CM College, titled "Importance and Utility of Regional Language". He said that in Bihar, there are several regional languages with a long tradition of writing literature, so an effort should be made to translate the literature of various regional languages into Urdu and Urdu literature into regional languages. Professor Abbad praised Professor Mashatq Ahmed's efforts to translate the works of Mithilanchal's regional language, Maithili, writers and poets into Urdu and Urdu literature into Maithili. He has translated Deputy Nazir Ahmed's novel "Mirat-ul-Urus" into Maithili as "Kanyak Aaina" and Baba Nagarnjun's Maithili novel "Balachama" into Urdu, which is really beneficial for the Urdu language and literature. On this occasion, the seminar's president, Professor Mashatq Ahmed, Principal of CM College, Darbhanga, said that our national education policy advocates for the promotion of regional languages and provides opportunities for primary to higher education, which can be very beneficial for a multilingual country like India. Professor Ahmed said that in Mithila, the Maithili language has a significant literary status, as a great poet like Vidyapati was born here in the 14th century, who elevated Maithili poetry, and Chand Jha wrote exemplary prose in Maithili. Translating Maithili literature into Urdu and the works of Urdu's representative poets and writers into Maithili can be beneficial for both languages. The seminar was attended by CM College's Urdu and Persian department teachers, including Dr. Khalid Anjum Usmani, Dr. Faiyaz Hayder, Dr. Shabnam, Dr. Mujahid Islam, Dr. Musawwir Hadi, and Lalit Narayan Mithila University's former head of department, Professor Aftab Ashraf, renowned journalist Zafar Anwar Shukurpuri, Professor Shah Nawaz Alam, Dr. Rizwan Ahmed, and others, who expressed their views and considered the translation of regional language literature a need of the time. At the beginning of the seminar, special guest Professor Abu Bakr Abbad was welcomed with a traditional Mithilanchal ceremony, and Professor Mashatq Ahmed introduced him, saying that Dr. Abbad is a credible critic in the Urdu world and has written half a dozen reference books. Finally, the head of the department, Dr. Khalid Anjum Usmani, thanked the guests.
