The government will review the cases of students who were expelled from educational institutions after the Supreme Court's verdict on the abolition of the scheduled caste status of Tanti-Tatwa: Vijay Choudhary

Patna, February 09 (ABN) The Bihar government on Monday assured the assembly that it would review the cases of students who were expelled from educational institutions after the Tanti-Tatwa caste was excluded from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category following a Supreme Court verdict.

Bihar's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, while responding to a calling attention motion by Indian Inclusive Party (IPP) MLA Indrajeet Prasad Gupta, said the state government was willing to review the cases of students from the Tanti-Tatwa caste who were ousted from medical colleges, engineering colleges, and other educational institutions after the Supreme Court revoked their SC status.

Mr. Choudhary also assured that the government would review the cases of candidates who, despite clearing recruitment exams, were not being inducted into services under the SC category. He asked Mr. Gupta to provide detailed information about the students expelled from educational institutions and candidates who were not being inducted into services despite being selected.

He said the government was willing to review such cases and would face no difficulty in investigating these matters if complete details were provided. The minister said the state government had included the Tanti-Tatwa caste in the SC category after conducting a social study, which found that their social status was similar to that of the Pan caste, which was already receiving benefits as a Scheduled Caste.

Mr. Choudhary informed that the Patna High Court had upheld the state government's decision to include the Tanti-Tatwa caste in the SC category as a sub-caste of the Pan caste, but the Supreme Court later quashed both the state government's and the high court's decisions.

The minister said that despite the Supreme Court's decision to revoke the SC status of the Tanti-Tatwa caste, the state government was committed to protecting their interests. He clarified that no one from the caste had been removed from state government services, and although their classification had been changed from SC to Extremely Backward Class (EBC), they were still allowed to continue in service.

Later, MLA Mr. Gupta told Minister Mr. Choudhary that students who had benefited from the government's decision were being expelled from educational institutions, and individuals who had cleared recruitment exams were being asked to produce SC certificates during interviews.

The minister asked him to provide detailed information and assured that the government was willing to review all such cases. He reiterated that the government was serious about the Tanti-Tatwa caste issue, which is why it had decided to include them in the SC category based on social study findings.

Mr. Choudhary also informed the House that the state government had filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, seeking reconsideration of the decision to exclude the Tanti-Tatwa caste from the SC category. He said the Supreme Court had clarified that only the central government had the authority to grant SC status to any caste.

Bhagalpur civil court receives bomb threat, security tightened
Bhagalpur, February 09 (ABN) The security arrangements at the Bhagalpur civil court have been tightened after the court received a bomb threat on Monday.

Bhagalpur Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar Yadav said that after receiving the threat via email, the court's administrative in-charge immediately informed senior police officials, and a large police force was deployed in the court premises, restricting the entry of general people.

He said the City Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police, along with additional police force and a bomb disposal squad, reached the spot and conducted a search operation in the court premises, but no suspicious object was found. The situation is peaceful, and the police are investigating the threatening email.

It is worth noting that this is the second time in the past month that the Bhagalpur civil court has received a bomb threat. The administrative in-charge of the District and Sessions Judge received an email threatening to blow up the court, following which he immediately informed senior police officials.
