Patna: (ABN) The state government has initiated key measures to make Bihar's roads safer and improve traffic management. The Transport Department held a high-level meeting regarding the Intelligent Traffic Management System project. The meeting was held at Visheshwaraya Bhavan and was chaired by Development Commissioner Mahir Kumar Singh. A total of 42 renowned companies from India and abroad participated in the meeting, including industry experts, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and AI-based technology firms.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the project's technical scope and procurement model under the Expression of Interest (EOI) framework. The state government's priority is to ensure the project's financial viability, which includes its operation and maintenance for a period of approximately 10 years. To this end, companies have been asked to submit proposals, particularly through public-private partnerships and revenue-sharing models.

In this regard, Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said that under this project, automatic number plate recognition cameras will be installed at major junctions and accident-prone areas across the state. A key feature of these cameras will be their ability to automatically identify vehicles violating traffic laws, after which e-challans will be issued against them.

Development Commissioner Mahir Kumar Singh said that this project will prove to be a revolutionary step towards making traffic management technology-based in Bihar. After analyzing the proposals received through the EOI, the department will soon issue a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP), based on which an agency will be selected to start work. Several senior officers attended the meeting, including Principal Secretary of Urban Development and Housing Department Veneet Kumar; Sudeep Kumar, ADG (Traffic); Arif Hasan, State Transport Commissioner; and Additional Secretary of the Transport Department, Praveen Kumar.
