Crisis over mid-day meal in government schools, teachers worried

Awaz E Bihar•17 December 2025 at 07:01 pm•0 views•2 min read

Patna: (ABN) The school administration in Bihar is currently facing difficulties due to the mid-day meal provided to children. In fact, eggs are given to children every Friday under the mid-day meal scheme in all government schools in the state, and those who do not eat eggs are given bananas. As a result, school administrators are facing difficulties in providing eggs as part of the mid-day meal scheme due to the increased price of eggs caused by the cold weather. An egg is available for 7 to 8 rupees, which is why administrators are facing difficulties in purchasing them.

According to information, the government has fixed the price of an egg at 5 rupees for the mid-day meal, while eggs are currently available for 2 to 3 rupees more, causing concern for school administrators. In a ground report by ABP today (December 17), it was found that administrators and assistant teachers are worried about the situation. They are arranging eggs for the mid-day meal from their own funds.

Brij Bhushan Pandey, an assistant teacher at Kanya Balak Madhya Vidyalaya in Panai, Patna, said that despite the increased prices, they are providing eggs to children through mutual coordination. He further said that they have not been able to take the matter to the government. According to the menu, children are given an egg as part of the mid-day meal on Fridays. On this occasion, children said that they are given one egg each on Fridays.

In this regard, RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed said that a game of loot is being played in the name of mid-day meals. Children are not even getting eggs to eat, and the rice served to them is not edible. Regarding the price of eggs in mid-day meals, JDU spokesperson Nawal Sharma said that the mid-day meal is an effective government scheme. The government is aware of the difference between the market price of eggs and the government's payment rate. The children are innocent, and we are concerned about their future.
